I've reached the point in my life where things are supposed to go downhill from here biologically speaking. It's this aging thing. Apparantly, it also affects your thoughts and conversation. Instead of talking about what kind of crazy stuff I'm going to get into this weekend, I believe the conversation is supposed to center around what hurts the most today, or how many medications I'm taking or how the grandkids are doing. The thing is, my brain doesn't realize this yet. In my mind, I'm still 25. Of course when I look in the mirror I know differently, but I'm not looking in the mirror all the time, so I tend to forget this.
Physically speaking, I still feel great. I get up with no aches or pains yet, and I don't take any medications other than vitamins. No, my problem is not so much physical, but mental, more so ego. It's the kind of thing that bothers you because you seem to have almost as much hair growing out of your ears as you do on top of your head. Or seeing all these little skin growth sort of things appearing all over your body. Or those brown spots that I'm starting to see on my face. What bothers me also is when I see an attractive lady that I just have to admire for a second or two, and when I catch her glancing back at me it's not, "hmmm, he's a hunk" But, "what you looking at you dirty old man?". Yea, women definitely look at your differently at this point in life. Well, I can still hike, and lift weights and do all those things, and that's great. But knowing that you're no longer a 'stud' that the ladies fine irresistible is sort of a drag. It's just one of those things where I haven't yet come to grips with the fact that I'm no longer the guy that turns the ladies heads. The funny thing is, it doesn't seem that long ago that I was that guy. Hmmm' It's just a fact of life that sooner or later all of us men must come to grips with.
Do you hear that brain? |
