Search Term Suggestion Tool

Author: Tom Antion

Overture.com offers a cool function to assist you on your quest to find unique keywords. This tool can also tell you how many times a particular word has been searched within the last 30 days. If you were to enter the word "presentation," the tool would tell you that it has been searched 954 times in the past month. The tool will then display variations of the word that have been searched in the past 30 days. These numbers only reflect the searches done through Overture.com and its affiliates.

I noticed that the more specific the search, the less often it was looked for. A narrower search is obviously done by individuals looking for a more particular thing. This tells me that if I create pages in my site based only on general terms, I will inevitably bring more traffic into my site. Unfortunately, some of that traffic will quickly click away, but others will have found exactly what they were looking for: me.

The search term tool is also good for checking to see if a keyword or keyword phrase is being used. It is very discouraging to kill yourself getting a high ranking on a keyword that no one uses. So why not go in there and play around until you find something that suits your topic area.

Overture also has deals with other major search facilities. If you are willing to bid amongst the three highest bids, Overture puts you as a "sponsored or paid listing" on their other search engines. This is a quick and easy way to get a high search result.

Overture.com is currently the largest and most successful paid search engine out there. However, search engines and directories are changing so rapidly, that it is impossible to ever really be up to date. That is why I recommend book-marking http://www.searchenginewatch.com and http://www.searchengine-news.com/ in order to keep up on the latest developments. You will also receive a free E-zine filled with current headlines and facts to help keep you in the know.
