Don't Even Think About Affiliate Marketing Until You've Read This - Part 2

Author: Jeremy Hansen

4. DON'T have too many links on one page...
This one is critical. New affiliate marketers tend to think ' this affiliate stuff is great I'll put up 100 affiliate links on my page, then one of them will have to get clicked'. It doesn't work! I'll never forget the example the great internet marketer John Reese gave when he said its like saying "Hey would you like to buy this pen... it's a great pen and it will double your productivity instantly... it feels great in your hand and you can interchange between several different colours... by the way would you like to go to the bathroom?" Every extra link on your page is a distraction just like that ridiculous question. Ideally you would like to have only ONE place on the entire page that the prospect can click... that of course being your affiliate link. Internet users are fickle and they will click anywhere and everywhere that catches your eye. The less options you give them the more chances they have of taking that option... the less decision they have to make the better... Of course like any other there are exceptions to this rule but, at least in the beginning, the more closely you can follow it the better.

5. Don't Sell... PRESELL!
This one is a biggie. Too many affiliates make the mistake of putting too much of a sales pitch on their page... Big mistake! Here's what happens: Prospect reads your sales pitch... they are enthralled, they find your click here link and click on through to the merchant page. The merchant (as they have to) hits the propect with ANOTHER sales pitch that may or not be better or different to the one the affiliate has written and they have just read. They feel frustrated and insulted that they have been made to read the same information twice and what's worse, they start to feel as though they are being pressured into purchasing the product... next... yep you guessed it they leave! Affililate commission out the window. Don't, whatever you do make this mistake. If you do i can say with confdence that you will be lucky to make a single affiliate sale.

6. Don't Make your page too good!
This one sounds very silly and as usual there are exceptions but as a general rule don't make your page too flashy and professional. The best affiliate sites are plain and almost dull... remember your not the 'big company' your the little guy, and prospects don't expect little guys to have enormous flashy, websites. Leave that for the merchant, it's their job. Remember your out to provide information and gain trust. Your page should be designed to guide your prospect to the affiliate links, nothing more nothing less.

I hope these articles have been of help and I sincerely hope that they will if nothing else inspire you to take your affiliate marketing knowledge to the next level. Most of all I hope that you will not leave your knowledge here and that you will take action to turn your knowledge into results. I can tell you from experience the life of an affiliate marketer (part or full time) is definitely one worth trying.
